Grand Theft Auto V gets BattlEye anti-cheat, breaks online play on Steam Deck / Linux

Surely, BattlEye won't sit quietly while one of their customers is spreading false information about their product? Apart from scamming paying customers, it wouldn't surprise me if this isn't exactly according to whatever terms they've signed with BattlEye; claiming that Valve is in charge of BattlEye's Linux support sounds like defamation to me.

Decky Loader 3.0 is out now for Steam Deck plugins on the latest Steam update

Quoting: TrainDoc
Quoting: CybolicI recommend people wait on this one. My Deck is currently stuck in a 2-5 second boot-loop after upgrading Decky Loader to version 3.0. It has never been stuck in a boot-loop before.
None of our testers encountered this error. If you can collect your logs and submit them in an issue we'll do our best to resolve the issue if we can replicate it ourselves.
I'm afraid I already wiped the Decky Loader install and reinstalled it, which now works (note to others: hold down Ctrl+Alt+; during boot to enter Desktop Mode). I did plan on submitting the logs, but the desktop was excruciatingly slow to use and I couldn't find the logs, so I settled for wiping Decky Loader instead.
My suspicion is that one of the plugins I had installed was causing this, so I'll recommend uninstalling them all before doing the upgrade.

Oxenfree is being completely removed from itch.io in October

Quoting: razing32And once again i have to differ to people that use GOG.
I use Steam for convenience and proton but stories like these make me realize that when push comes to shove its best to have a backup copy of your game.
I'm not sure what you mean to say by referring to GOG here? Itch.io and GOG offer the exact same benefit in this case: a DRM free download. If Netflix had asked GOG to pull the game from download instead, it would be the same situation and you'd still have your local copy in either case.

Quoting: CybolicIf you're in the EU, you should be able to get a refund for that Windows tax, if they don't directly offer it without an OS.

no, if you complain they will most likely just offer to take the whole device back
Quoting: PenglingI almost attempted that some years ago, but the hoops that you had to jump through to even be considered for a refund were so cumbersome that I didn't bother in the end*. I don't imagine that it's any better now, unfortunately, and it just shouldn't be that way.

*This was an extreeeeeeeemely long time ago so pardon my slightly fuzzy memory, but I seem to recall that, at a minimum, you had to provide photographic proof of the entire process of declining to use Windows and installing something else, as well as proof of purchase and all of the personal details that you'd reasonably expect would be needed to process a refund; I recall that it felt like a hell of a lot to have to give to a company who forced their software onto the product I wanted in the first place. I figured it was one of those cases where they legally have to offer it, but they make it such a pain that most folks won't go for it. Knowing my luck, they probably would've said that it wasn't proof enough, anyway.
I'm sad to hear that it's gotten like this! Last I did it was about a decade ago, but it really was no more than telling the store that I refused to accept the terms that Windows required me to accept and that I wanted the price of the Windows license removed from the total price. I think I might have had to give them one reminder that they were legally required to give me a refund, but I certainly didn't have to repeat it or provide any proof (which I also couldn't have done, as I was telling them this in the store as I was purchasing the machine).

Quoting: yndoendoWant a fold-able laptop. I would most likely bit the bullet and pay the Windows tax for Asus Zenbook 14 Flip OLED with AMD Ryzen APU.

Still hope non-Windows OEM comes out with a decent AMD fold-able. Intel is in my do not buy category when they pushed out 13 & 14 GEN CPU they knew where bad just to go to market with a product. They are the Boeing of the computing industry. If it's Intel I ain't buying.

Alien: Rogue Incursion (VR) looks like it will turn me into a nervous wreck
30 July 2024 at 12:59 am UTC

I'm not quite sold on this yet. The xenomorph looks pretty decent, but the graphics look a bit... odd - like they're stuck somewhere between cartoonish and realistic. I'm also confused about the tone of the game. They show off several interactions that are similar to "Alien: Isolation", but the voice-over makes it sound like "Colonial Marines".
In short, I'm just not getting a coherent sales pitch out of this.

That certainly had a few set pieces I haven't seen in a Quake mod before! Look very nice!

Also, nice choice of music used, which is "Nightmare (Ranger)" from "Arena Eternal" by Markie Music

Whats changed on the logo???......
The colours have been tweaked, the general shape has a smoother curve and the splash-tentacle in the middle of the dolphin is better centred. It's basically a redrawn version of the same motif.

Here they are for comparison (new on top):

Well good news, it's not Electron!

I agree though, electron isn't a good choice for an application of this nature.
Just for completeness, it's built with .NET / C# and they helpfully included their write-up on why they made this choice, directly in the repo.
